Creation of Adam
A long, long time ago, before there were any people on Earth, Allah decided to create the first human. He made Adam from clay and shaped him perfectly. Then, Allah breathed life into Adam, and he became a living person.
Quranic Verse:
“And when your Lord said to the angels, ‘I am creating a human being from clay, from molded mud.’”
(Surah Al-Hijr, 15:28)
Prostration of the Angels
Allah told the angels to bow down to Adam to show respect. All the angels obeyed Allah and bowed down, except for Iblis (Satan). Iblis was very proud and thought he was better than Adam because he was made from fire, while Adam was made from clay. Because of his pride and disobedience, Allah punished Iblis and sent him away from paradise.
Quranic Verses:
“And when We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate to Adam,’ they prostrated, except for Iblis. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:34)
Conversation Between Allah and Iblis:
“[Allah] said, ‘What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?’ [Iblis] said, ‘I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay.’”
(Surah Al-A’raf, 7:12)
“[Iblis] said, ‘Because You have put me in error, I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path. Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful [to You].’”
(Surah Al-A’raf, 7:16-17)
Adam in Paradise
Allah placed Adam in a beautiful garden called Paradise. There, Adam could enjoy everything he wanted. Allah also created a partner for Adam named Hawwa (Eve) so that he would not be lonely. They lived happily in Paradise with only one rule: they were not allowed to eat from a specific tree.
Quranic Verses:
“And We said, ‘O Adam, dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat therefrom in [ease and] abundance from wherever you will. But do not approach this tree, lest you be among the wrongdoers.’”
(Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:35)
The Deception of Iblis
Iblis was very angry and jealous of Adam. He wanted to make Adam and Hawwa disobey Allah. So, he tricked them into eating the fruit from the forbidden tree. When Adam and Hawwa realized they had disobeyed Allah, they felt very sorry and asked for forgiveness. Allah forgave them but decided to send them to Earth as a lesson.
Quranic Verses:
“But Satan whispered to them to make apparent to them that which was concealed from them of their private parts. He said, ‘Your Lord did not forbid you this tree except that you become angels or become of the immortal.’”
(Surah Al-A’raf, 7:20)
“They said, ‘Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.’”
(Surah Al-A’raf, 7:23)
Life on Earth
Adam and Hawwa came to Earth, and their life here began. They learned how to live, work, and take care of themselves. They had many children, and their family grew bigger and bigger. Adam taught his children about Allah and how to live good, righteous lives.
Quranic Verses:
“He said, ‘Descend, being to one another enemies. And for you on the earth is a place of settlement and enjoyment for a time.’”
(Surah Al-A’raf, 7:24)
Habil and Qabil
Two of Adam’s sons were named Habil (Abel) and Qabil (Cain). Habil was kind and good-hearted, while Qabil was not. Both brothers were asked to offer a sacrifice to Allah. Habil offered his best animal, while Qabil offered some of his crops, but not his best ones.
Allah accepted Habil’s offering because he gave the best he had with a sincere heart. This made Qabil very jealous and angry. Unfortunately, in his anger, Qabil did something very wrong—he hurt Habil and caused his death. This was the first time such a bad thing happened on Earth. Qabil felt very guilty and didn’t know what to do. Allah sent a crow to show Qabil how to bury his brother, teaching him what to do when someone passes away.
Quranic Verses:
“And recite to them the story of Adam’s two sons, in truth, when they both offered a sacrifice [to Allah], and it was accepted from one of them but was not accepted from the other. Said [the latter], ‘I will surely kill you.’ Said [the former], ‘Indeed, Allah only accepts from the righteous [who fear Him].’”
(Surah Al-Ma’idah, 5:27)
“Then Allah sent a crow searching [i.e., scratching] in the ground to show him how to hide the disgrace of his brother. He said, ‘Oh, woe to me! Have I failed to be like this crow and hide the disgrace of my brother?’ And he became of the regretful.”
(Surah Al-Ma’idah, 5:31)
Lessons from Adam’s Story
The story of Prophet Adam in Islam teaches us many important lessons:
- Obedience to Allah: Always follow Allah’s commands, just like the angels did.
- Repentance: When we make mistakes, we should sincerely ask for Allah’s forgiveness, just like Adam and Hawwa did.
- Jealousy and Anger: These feelings can lead to bad actions, as seen with Qabil and Habil. It’s important to control our emotions and act kindly.
- Brotherhood: We should treat our family and others with love and respect.
Prophet Adam’s life shows us the importance of being good, kind, and obedient to Allah. His story helps us understand how to live in a way that pleases Allah and brings peace and happiness to our lives.
